Review: Ascending (The Vardeshi Saga)

Ascending (The Vardeshi Saga) Ascending (The Vardeshi Saga) by Meg Pechenick
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received a free copy of this book through BookSirens in exchange for an honest, voluntary review.

This book was a slow paced read, but by the end I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happened next. I am glad the second book it already out because I need to find out! I really enjoyed this book.

I read this book as part of the PopSugar Reading Challenge 2020 - A book with a main character in their 20s.

Review: The Girl with No Shadow

The Girl with No Shadow The Girl with No Shadow by Joanne Harris
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I probably would have enjoyed this book a little more if I did not have to keep trying to figure out which point of view I was reading from constantly. One reviewer mentioned there was some kind of art at the beginning to indicat which point of view the particular chapter was in. Unfortunately, the Kindle edition I was reading did not have any such markers. I also found the story to be slow going. It started going faster once Roux entered.

Review: The Fox

The Fox The Fox by Frederick Forsyth
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book through a Goodreads Giveaway.

This is my first book by this author. I have to say it took all I had to finish it. There was no real suspense. We are told what is going to happen before an "event" happens. It was repetitive. I did not really enjoy this book as much as I hoped. The premise was promising, but the execution was lacking.

Review: Interest

Interest Interest by Kevin Gaughen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received a Kindle edition of this book through a Goodreads Giveaway.

I originally picked this book because I have been in a "books about aliens" mood.

While this book is fiction, I feel as though I need to file this in the conspiracy bookshelf. Some of the concepts the author touches on (particularly chapter 12) reminds me of what "conspiracy theorists" (I detest this term, but I can't think of another at the time of my writing this.) theorize about the Bilderberg group. I would like to note, however, that this book is absolutely relevant to the current times where the American Dream is no longer a dream, but a nightmare as the Dream no longer exists. It touches on some of the issues we are going through today as a country.

I read this book as part of the PopSugar Reading Challenge 2020 - A book by or about a journalist.

Review: All Systems Red

All Systems Red All Systems Red by Martha Wells
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have had trouble finding a good sci-fi story, but this was a good one. I loved the premise and can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Review: The Witch and the Guillotine

The Witch and the Guillotine The Witch and the Guillotine by Daniel Sugar
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I received a Kindle edition of this book through a Goodreads Giveaway.

This is another fun, fast read. The first book was set in Salem (1692), the second in Paris (French Revolution), and it seems the third will be set in Russia. I hope book 3 runs does not follow a formula ((view spoiler)) and is unique.

Review: Salem Burning

Salem Burning Salem Burning by Daniel Sugar
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

While I enjoyed the plot, this book really needs some editing. Too many quotations where they shouldn't be, for example. It can be distracting at times. As I stated, I did enjoy the plot. I will read book 2 to see where the author goes with this story line.
