Review: The Book of Christmas

The Book of Christmas The Book of Christmas by Jane Struthers
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book has a good history of where Christmas traditions come from. As the book progresses to the present it focuses on British traditions. I found that the closer to the present we got the more I was skimming the book. The first half of the book was the best part as it has the historical aspects.

Review: Spooky Little Things

Spooky Little Things Spooky Little Things by Matthew T. Eaton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received a Kindle edition of this book through a Goodreads Giveaway.

This was a cute fun read. It's a good get into Halloween book even though it's geared towards middle grade kids.

Review: Randomize

Randomize Randomize by Andy Weir
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

This was definitely my least favorite of the Forward collection. I'm all for going computer geek (after all I am one), but this plot was blah. It was too simple and somewhat silly. I have not yet read the author's other works, but I hope they are much better than this short story.

Review: The Last Conversation

The Last Conversation The Last Conversation by Paul Tremblay
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This one was good. At one point I thought maybe the author was in our house when I was a child because I was born and raised in RI and as it happens, my parents would drive me around to get me back to sleep. I did not care to be woken from my deep slumbers back then.

It's rather difficult to describe the book without giving away spoilers, but for those who have preferences to writing style, the book is written in second person point of view.

Review: You Have Arrived at Your Destination

You Have Arrived at Your Destination You Have Arrived at Your Destination by Amor Towles
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This was a good story up until the end. I get that these are supposed to be short stories, but the end just stopped. It's like a magic word limit number was met and the story had to end immediately.

Review: Summer Frost

Summer Frost Summer Frost by Blake Crouch
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A cautionary tale of AI. In some ways the ending reminded me of 1984 by George Orwell. Enjoying the collection so far.
